Pawtucket Ice Rink Shooting Leaves 2 Dead, 4 Injured

A shooting occurred Monday at an indoor ice rink in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. Sources told Fox News that the conflict, originating from domestic violence, escalated into a murder-suicide, leaving two dead (including the suspect) and four injured.

According to WPRI.com, the incident happened at the Dennis M. Lynch Arena during a high school hockey game between Coventry Schools and Blackstone Valley Schools, when gunfire suddenly erupted.

A source from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) said the shooter first killed his wife, then fired at two of his children before taking his own life. A third child was also shot and is currently receiving hospital treatment.

An employee at a nearby Walgreens reported that someone ran into the store in panic, warning of a shooting. The store was then instructed to close and evacuate.

Don Cowart, superintendent of Coventry Public Schools, told Fox News Digital that all students from the Coventry boys’ hockey team at Lynch Arena have been confirmed safe.

“When the team was still in the facility, district officials received the report and immediately coordinated with event staff and law enforcement. An officer from the Coventry Police Department is on site and continues to accompany the students,” he said.

The FBI stated that it is aware of the incident and is coordinating with relevant authorities. Further information will be released by local law enforcement.

Rhode Island Governor Dan McKee posted on X around 3:30 p.m. Monday that he is closely monitoring the shooting and said he has spoken with Mayor Grebien and the Rhode Island State Police, praying for Pawtucket and all involved.

The Providence Bruins, an American Hockey League team affiliated with the NHL’s Boston Bruins, also issued a statement expressing condolences to those affected by the high school hockey game and thanking first responders for their efforts.
