Secrets to Unlocking Brewster and The Roost in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

The Roost is a cozy café with Brewster that can be found as part of the Museum in ACNH Zen Garden Designs after it was updated to Version 2.0! What you can do at the café and how to unlock The Roost in your Museum are all covered in this guide.

Because Brewster and The Roost were introduced in the massive Version 2.0 Update that was released on November 3rd, you'll need to have your copy of ACNH Zen Garden Designs fully updated in order to find him and enjoy the experience.

How To Gain Access To The Roost

When you upgrade to Version 2.0 of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the Roost does not automatically become available for use in the Museum; instead, you must complete a mini-quest for Blathers in order to unlock it for your island and use it! To begin the unlock quest, simply go to The Museum and look for Blathers, who will be in the midst of a 'thinking' cycle. In order to activate the thinking sequence from Blathers, you must first satisfy the following primary requirements:

  • The process of unlocking the KK Slider has been completed

  • The Museum has been upgraded to include an art exhibit

  • Donate at least one fish, one bug, one fossil, and one piece of art

  • Donate more if possible

  • Be the Island Representative, also known as the primary player on an island, and represent the island's interests

  • While not participating in the International Museum Day event, you can play on your own with no visitors or co-op players

After your first conversation with Blathers about the Cafe, he will challenge you to assist him in locating Brewster and will provide you with a copy of Brewster's photograph to keep.

Where Can I Find Brewster?
It is necessary to take a boat tour from Kapp'n and visit one of Brewster's mystery islands in order to complete Blathers' quest to track down Brewster. In order to access Kapp'n Boat Tours, you must first locate Kapp'n the green kapaa at your island's Pier, which can be found in either the bottom left or right corner, depending on the island's design.

You will be taken on an exclusive boat tour to a mystery island by Kapp'n after you have spent 1,000 Nook Miles with him. Then go on a search around the island until you come across Brewster the pigeon dressed for adventure!

Once you've located Brewster, speak with him to receive a brief piece of dialogue as well as a special Gyroid Fragment reward. The next day, plant this fragment on your home island and water it, and you'll have a Gyroid in your possession! There may also be additional Gyroid Fragments elsewhere on Brewster's island if you take the time to look.

Making a Home for Yourself
After returning home to your island and informing Blathers of your new discoveries, return to the Museum and inform him of your new discoveries! After a brief conversation, Blathers will announce his plans to construct The Roost café on the premises.

During the next in-game day, your island's Museum will be closed, with The Roost opening on the following in-game day. This will result in you having to wait a total of two days before you can take advantage of the new facility. Players who are impatient can, of course, time travel ahead if they so desire.

What You Can Do While Staying at the Roost
After The Roost has been constructed in your island's Museum, you can gain access to the quaint cafe by ascending the building's left-side stairs to the second floor and entering the room to the left of the Brewster's sign on the second floor.

Inside The Roost, you can stop by the bar and have a quick chat with Brewster while enjoying a cup of coffee for 200 Bells per person. Make sure not to leave ACNH Zen Garden Designs out in the cold — he despises ACNH Zen Garden Designs (read more) when that happens!

Isabelle, as well as other special guests such as villagers and other special characters, will occasionally stop by The Roost to join you for a cup of coffee.

Even better, The Roost is fully compatible with online multiplayer, allowing your friends to join you for a cup of coffee at the same time as you!

Amiibo can be used to invite villagers.

You can also invite villagers and special characters of your choice into the café by dialing the Amiibo Phone, which can be found in the bottom left corner of The Roost. Simply interact with the phone and tap an Animal Crossing Amiibo Card that matches the interaction.
