Patience is Key: Cookie Clicker is an idle game. You'll make progress even when you're not actively playing. Let the game run in the background to accumulate cookies.
Check Achievements: Achievements give you "Milk," which provides a percentage bonus to your total cookies per second.
Don't Sell Buildings (Usually): Generally, you should not sell buildings unless you are about to ascend or are using the Godzamok strategy to sell for a temporary click bonus.
