Dublin man (26) caught with ketamine doing ‘his best to stay clean’

'Personal use' | Conor Stobie (26) admitted possession of €1,768 of ketamine following a search by gardaí on May 25, 2023 ketamine drugs and plastic straw on bag of white powder on black wood background.Drug epidemic concept.A young man caught with ketamine after he was searched by gardaí has since sought treatment and is “doing his best to stay clean”, a court has heard.Conor Stobie (26) had the drug for his own personal use, he told officers.Judge Michael Connellan imposed a three-month sentence, which he suspended for 12 months.The defendant, of Gainsborough Avenue in Malahide, ­admitted possession of €1,768 of ketamine following a search by gardaí on May 25, 2023.Swords District Court heard gardaí were on mobile patrol at Cedar Avenue in Swords when they came across a male who was highly intoxicated and a danger to himself.The defendant was searched by gardaí before getting into the patrol car.He handed over a white powder, which was later identified as ketamine.The court heard Stobie had 10 previous convictions.Stobie’s defence lawyer said his client had not come to attention since this incident.He was a young man who had drug addiction issues at the time of this offence.However, he had since participated in a recovery programme, and was now drug-free.Stobie came from a good home, the court heard, and was clean of drugs and doing his best to stay clean.
