Bruce Springsteen Says Jeremy Allen White Sings “Very Well” in Biopic, Fans Will “Deeply Recognize” Interpretation

In an interview with Sirius XM’s E Street Radio, Springsteen talked about visiting the set of the upcoming biopic Deliver Me From Nowhere, which follows Springsteen while making his hit 1982 album Nebraska, and seeing The Bear actor play him. Though Springsteen admitted it was “a little” weird “at first” seeing someone playing yourself he noted “you get over that pretty quickly.”
“And Jeremy is such a terrific actor that you just fall right into it,” he said.

As for his thoughts on White’s portrayal of him overall, Springsteen said, “He’s got an interpretation of me that I think the fans will deeply recognize and he’s just done a great job. I’ve had a lot of fun being on the set when I can get there.”
White is also singing in the film, which Springsteen complimented him on: “He sings very well.”
“And Jeremy Strong and Odessa Young, there’s just a tremendous cast of people,” Springsteen added. “They cast the film beautifully so, it’s very exciting.”
During an interview with GQ, White shared that prior to the film he was undergoing a lot of preparation to portray Springsteen in the biopic.
“I’ve got a really talented group of people helping me train vocally, musically, to get ready for this thing,” White said. “I’m also really lucky [that] Bruce is really supportive of the film, and so I’ve had some access to him and he’s just the greatest guy.”
White also said that to prepare he went down “a YouTube rabbit hole” of footage which allowed him to watch Springsteen “at all these different periods in his life and be able to listen to his speaking voice as well as his singing voice. That’s kind of been the deal, just listening to him a lot and watching him a lot. It’s been really fun preparing.”
Springsteen‘s longtime manager Jon Landau — who is portrayed in the film by Jeremy Strong — also praised White and dubbed him the “perfect” choice to play the singer.
“Oh my God, he’s just perfect. The casting is great,” Landau told The Hollywood Reporter. “[Director] Scott [Cooper] said to me at the beginning, he said, ‘We get the right cast, and we’ll tell this story right,’ and he got the right cast.”
Meanwhile, when commenting on Strong playing him in the film Landau joked, “I died and went to heaven” adding, “He’s a great guy. We’ve had the chance to know each other, and I’m just dying to see what he does and what I learn from it.”
