Everything to Know About Colleen Hoover’s Upcoming Films After ‘It Ends With Us’
Colleen Hoover has been dominating the literary world for some time, and now stands as one of Hollywood’s most in-demand authors.
The writer behind It Ends With Us has several more movie adaptations in the works after the film became a box office success, grossing $351 million worldwide. That was in spite of on-set drama between star Blake Lively and director-star Justin Baldoni and the legal battles that ensued. (Don’t expect the pair to reunite for adaptation of Hoover’s 2022 sequel novel, It Starts With Us.)
The legal fights have not slowed down work on Hoover’s other big screen adaptations, including Verity, Reminders of Him and Regretting You. And while It Ends With Us may was Hoover’s biggest adaptation to date, but it wasn’t her first book to get the Hollywood treatment. The author’s book Confess was adapted for a seven-episode television season in 2017, starring Katie Leclerc and Ryan Cooper for the defunct service go90.
Ahead of the release of It Ends With Us in August, Hoover opened up to The Hollywood Reporter about what it was like seeing her work translated for the screen. “It’s very surreal,” the author explained. “I think it’s all of the emotions. I’m able to separate it, in the sense that I see the book and the film as two completely separate things. But at the same time, I think they did such a good job condensing this book into a film that I’m very happy with this adaptation.”
As for what’s next, The Hollywood Reporter is breaking down everything you need to know about Hoover’s upcoming film adaptations.
‘Verity’

Amazon MGM Studios is developing an adaptation of Hoover’s bestselling novel Verity, with Michael Showalter directing. Nick Antosca wrote the current script following the previous work of scribes Hillary Seitz, Angela LaManna and the team of Will Honley and April Maguire.
As for the cast, Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett are starring in the project.
Hoover self-published Verity in 2018, before Grand Central Publishing acquired it in 2021. The novel later went on to become a New York Times bestseller.
The book centers on Lowen Ashleigh, a struggling writer facing financial ruin who is hired by Jeremy Crawford to finish the remaining books in a series penned by his wife, author Verity Crawford (Hathaway), as she suffered a mysterious accident. Lowen quickly learns that a secret unfinished manuscript may reveal clues about the family’s not-so-perfect past.
A release date for Verity has yet to be announced.

In the fall of 2024, Universal Pictures scored the movie rights to Reminders of Him, one of Hoover’s bestselling novels.
The film adaptation is being directed by Vanessa Caswill, with Hoover and Lauren Levine writing the screenplay (the pair is also producing through their Heartbones Entertainment banner).
Published in 2022, Reminders of Him follows Keena Rowan, a troubled young mother who is determined to reconnect with her four-year-old daughter, Diem, after being released from prison. She was serving five years for the involuntary manslaughter of her boyfriend, Scotty.
“I am excited as Reminders of Him holds a special place in my heart too,” Hoover previously said in a statement about the film adaptation. “I feel confident Universal is the right partner to do this story justice. What better way to launch Heartbones Entertainment, my company with producing partner Lauren Levine. Our aim is to create something quite special for everyone.”
There’s no word on casting for the project at this point, but the film is set to be released in theaters on Feb. 13, 2026.
‘Regretting You’

Hoover’s book Regretting You is getting an indie adaptation from Constantin Film, with The Fault in Our Stars filmmaker Josh Boone directing.
Regretting You, which Hoover released in 2019, follows the complex relationship between a mother and daughter, Morgan and Clara, with conflicting goals and personalities. However, they are forced to navigate the consequences after Morgan’s husband and Clara’s father is involved in a questionable accident.
The cast features Allison Williams as Morgan and McKenna Grace as Clara. Dave Franco also stars in the film. The movie’s script is being penned by Susan McMartin.
A release date for the Regretting You adaptation has yet to be announced.
