Zebra spotted in pub as owner enjoys pint with pony in tow

It's not an everyday sight - a striking Zebra foal in a country pub, accompanied by a small pony while their owner takes a break. But that was the spectacle that left many astonished at the Enistymon Horse Fair over the weekend. A man was spotted guiding a petite Zebra foal on a bridle around the town. Surprised spectators even captured the zebra foal inside a local pub, standing next to a diminutive Shetland pony. Social media users who shared numerous photos said the Zebra seemed content and well cared for, reports Cork Beo. There is no implication of any mistreatment by the owner - horses and quadrupeds of all shapes and sizes are a usual sight at the renowned Enistymon Horse Fair in Co Clare. However, at least two animal charities in Munster have expressed concerns about the sighting of an exotic animal - which the Zebra would be categorised as - with organisations like My Lovely Horse highlighting that Ireland sadly lacks legislation to regulate and protect exotic animals kept as 'pets'. A spokesperson for Enistymon Horse Fair informed local media in Co Clare that they were aware of the striped creature's presence at this year's fair, but had no additional information and it didn't seem like the animal was up for sale. Speculation has also arisen about the Zebra's origins. It's thought that several of these creatures are privately owned in Ireland, including a small herd spotted in fields on a Munster farm. Under current legislation, an import licence is required for exotic animals like Zebras. However, once they're in Ireland or bred here, there's limited legislation governing these still uncommon animals.
