This looks impossible, even up close and in person. 200 million years old, and having balanced for untold centuries since glaciers covered this land, it's totally worth the 1.7-km hike (~1 mile).
Years ago, some local fishermen in boats tried to topple the rock, and failed. Visiting this out-of-the-way gem, you’re likely to see very few other people. You drive about a half hour down the long peninsula of the Digby Neck, then take a free ferry across the Petite Passage, and continue driving a few more minutes to Tiverton. There are signs for the Balancing Rock trailhead.
Parking is plentiful. The trail includes informational signage about the unique bog and forest biomes you walk through. The far end of the trail includes 235 steps down. Some steps are a bit rickety, but with good strong railings.
