Man found dead outside Wheatsheaf pub as murder probe launched by police

A murder inquiry has been launched following the discovery of a man's body outside a pub.

The victim, whose identity has not yet been confirmed, was found deceased in an alleyway in Surrey after sustaining severe injuries.

His body was discovered in the passageway adjacent to The Wheatsheaf on Kingston Road, Ewell on Tuesday, December 9.

Emergency services raced to the scene near the establishment where paramedics attended to the man's wounds, but he was tragically declared dead shortly afterwards.

Surrey and Sussex Police have initiated a murder investigation, reports The Mirror.

Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Superintendent Chris Friday, stated: "Firstly, I would like to pay my heartfelt condolences to the man's family and friends for their loss.

"I know that there will be a lot of concern and speculation in the local community this evening about what has happened, and I would like to reassure you that we are working at pace to establish the exact circumstances of this man's death and identify those responsible and ensure they are brought to justice.

"I would also like to thank local residents for their patience and cooperation while we deal with this incident.

"I would appeal to anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area round the time of the incident, or with any other information about what has happened, to come forward as soon as possible. I would also appeal to anyone in the vicinity with doorbell or CTV footage to make contact with us as a matter of urgency."

Kingston Road and Chessington Road are presently shut in both directions, as per police reports, due to an ongoing cordon.
