A fire ripped through a massive factory in Birmingham on Wednesday night, setting the entire two-storey building alight. Residents were warned to stay indoors as 75 firefighters and 13 crews were called to the scene just after 7pm. They were still battling the blaze in the early hours of Thursday morning. The flames have engulfed a carpet warehouse and gutted two large units, as people nearby reported hearing shocking explosions and loud popping noises. Sam Carpets, the carpet retail shop, has been destroyed as locals report seeing billowing black smoke from miles away. Residents nearby have been warned to stay indoors, as dramatic drone footage shows the sheer scale of the fire. Firefighters are currently working across three sectors in a race to prevent the fire from spreading further. West Midlands Fire Service: 'On January 7, at 7.13pm, we were alerted to a significant fire involving a large carpet storage unit on the Tyseley Industrial Estate, Steeleys Road, Tyseley.'The fire involves 100 per cent of the two-storey brick-built factory unit, measuring approximately 100m x 40m. 'Crews are working to bring the fire under control using specialist equipment such as hydraulic platforms, aerial drones and breathing apparatus.'This is likely to be a protracted incident and further significant updates will be provided when available.'Local Residents are advised to keep windows and doors closed and avoid the area.'In an update at 11pm on Wednesday, the force said that crews continued to make 'good progress' at the scene, but that activities on the site were 'unlikely to be scaled down for some time'. Footage shows how close the busy industrial area is to Birmingham City Centre, with reports stating that the blaze is visible for miles across the Midlands city. Sam Carpet Ltd is a 25-year-old business with their warehouse on Units 10-11 on Tyseley Industrial Estate. Photos show the store completely engulfed by the fire, which has been raging for several hours. Firefighters are seen using cranes to drop water into the warehouse, as well as drones and other specialist equipment. The cause of the blaze has not been confirmed.
