To everyone who (a) wasn’t able to get tickets to Coachella before the festival sold out, (b) couldn’t afford tickets in the first place, or (c), attended the festival during weekend one, I am so sorry, because Sabrina Carpenter’s weekend 2 set will probably go down as one of the most iconic headlining performances of all time, thanks to a very special guest that joined her onstage—the one, the only, Madonna.
“So, 20 years ago today, I performed at Coachella. I was in the dance tent, and it was the first time I performed ‘Confessions on a Dance Floor’ part one in America," Madonna said during the surprise moment. "It was such a thrill, and it’s a thrill to be back. It’s a full circle moment, you know? [It's] very meaningful for me.”
The pair both hit the stage in lingerie-inspired pieces—Sabrina in a lacy white one-piece with a strapless bandeau bust detail, and Madonna in a purple satin dress with lace trim and matching purple thigh-high fishnet stockings—and performed duets of “Like a Prayer” and “Vogue.” FYI: Madonna last appeared at Coachella in 2015, and made a surprise cameo during Drake’s headlining set, so her joining Sabrina onstage is a big deal.
It’s also no surprise that Sabrina would want Madonna as a guest for her Coachella performance. The “Manchild” singer paid homage to the Queen of Pop by wearing the same vintage Bob Mackie gown that Madonna wore at the 1991 Oscars to the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards.

Madonna’s surprise Coachella appearance is coming at a very interesting time in her career. This week, she announced that she will be released Confessions on the Dancefloor: Part II—AKA the flawless project that gave pop music fans “Hung Up”—this summer on July 3.
During the set, Madonna gave fans a taste of a song from the forthcoming, which Sabrina joined her to sing. I know it’s all very FOMO inducing, but just pretend that you were there by watch the video below in full:
