The network surprised fans by announcing the date of The Rookie season 8 finale.
The Rookie's finale date comes alongside the finales of shows like 9-1-1 and Grey’s Anatomy.

As season 8 of the hit drama continues to air every Monday night on ABC, there’s always something happening to our favorite group of police officers. Between heart-pumping weekly cases, romantic highs and lows, and curveballs fans don’t see coming, it’s easy to understand why viewers love tuning in every week. The Rookie is already renewed for season 9, meaning we’ll have even more time to spend with John Nolan (Nathan Fillion), Tim Bradford (Eric Winter), Lucy Chen (Melissa O’Neil), and plenty of others.
But fans won’t be thrilled to learn that The Rookie season 8 finale will air on Monday, May 4, 2026, at 10 p.m. ET on ABC, per an April 1 announcement from Deadline.

Although this is definitely disappointing, there’s still plenty of time before season 8 officially wraps on TV. Plus, fans will hopefully feel mollified that this isn’t the only ABC show airing its season finale around this time.
Popular series Will Trent is premiering its season 4 finale on Wednesday, May 5, 2026, while shows Grey’s Anatomy and 9-1-1 are set to air their finales on Thursday, May 7, 2026, on ABC.
The April 20 episode of The Rookie, titled “Out of Time,” will see Nolan encounter moral questions as he’s forced to protect someone he doesn’t necessarily trust, according to an ABC press release. Elsewhere, Lucy and Celina Juarez (Lisseth Chavez) are helping Nolan follow a promising lead, while Angela Lopez (Alyssa Diaz) has some mixed feelings about her husband Wesley Evers’ (Shawn Ashmore) new job.
