'A credit to his family': Community plunged into mourning following sudden death of young GAA star
The GAA and broader community of Carrigaline in Co Cork has been plunged into mourning following the sudden death of a young man who represented them 'with great pride'.Gifted sportsman Darragh King, who worked locally in construction, passed away "unexpectedly" on Wednesday, according to his death notice on RIP.ie.The young man was extremely well known in Carrigaline and his unexpected death has prompted tributes from organisations and locals within the community and further afield, reports Cork Beo.His own Carrigaline GAA club stated: "Everyone in Carrigaline GAA club is deeply shocked and heartbroken at the news of the tragic passing of our club player, Darragh King."Darragh was a Carrigaline man of great stature, who represented his club and community with great pride. In his short life his talents and commitment shown through in all that he did and achieved."Our thoughts are with Darragh's family, friends, teammates and all who knew and loved him.""As a club we will mind each other in the days ahead to support Darragh's family and each other. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam"."Alongside other sporting organisations in the locality, Carrigaline RFC added to the tributes, stating: "Our thoughts are with the friends, family and clubmates of Darragh King. A real club man who clearly had a huge impact on those he met."A time for the community to come together and look after one another."Carrigaline United Soccer Club also paid tribute to the talented athlete in a message shared on social media."Everyone at CUAFC is deeply saddened to hear of the tragic passing of Darragh King," the club said."Darragh was clearly a young man who meant so much to his club and community, representing Carrigaline with pride, dedication, and heart. His loss is felt far beyond the pitch."Our sincere condolences go out to Darragh’s family, friends, teammates, and all at Carrigaline GAA during this incredibly difficult time. You are all in our thoughts."May he rest in peace. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam."Tributes have poured in from those who knew Darragh, with one local resident commenting: "Such a shock to hear, a fabulous guy since he was a young boy, a credit to his family and his club. Heartbreaking for his family. Sending huge condolences on such a tragic loss."While another mourner added: "We are beyond heartbroken to hear of Darragh’s tragic passing. To Siobhan, Pat and Tomás, extended family, all his team mates, Club Members in Carrigaline GAA and his many friends we offer our sincere condolences."Through the GAA, I had the pleasure of being involved with Darragh, His Energy, His Passion and His Commitment was truly inspiring & remarkable. With Darragh on your team you were always in safe hands. Off the pitch he was a true gent of a young lad and will never to be forgotten. Rest in Peace Darragh (Kinger)."Darragh's funeral arrangements have been confirmed: "Reposing at Fordes Funeral Home, Old Waterpark, Carrigaline on Sunday (26th) from 4.00pm until 5.00pm.
