Warning for holidaymakers as 'heavy' rain forecast for hotspots

Holidaymakers should be aware of rainfall forecast for summer hotspots in the coming week. The warning comes into effect at 3am for Cork and Waterford, and will remain in place until 6pm on Thursday evening. The forecaster said: ‘Persistent rain will be heavy, and possibly thundery, at times.’ Pic: Getty Images They added that potential impacts include localised flooding, difficult travelling conditions and poor visibility. Some northeastern areas are expected to remain dry on Thursday, with temperatures remaining between 14 and 18 degrees. Friday will see a mixture of cloud, sunny spells and showers, some of which will be heavy with a chance of an isolated thunderstorm in the west. Met Éireann said: ‘Sunday looks set to be a drier day but with a good deal of cloud overall. The best of the bright or sunny intervals will be in the south.’ RAIN ABROAD The taste of the sun, and the change in weather will likely have many looking towards their upcoming summer holidays. Alan O’Reilly of Carlow Weather has shared some disappointing news for those heading away in the coming days. Taking to X on Wednesday, the weather expert confirmed: ‘Parts of Portugal, Spain and France are forecast to see rain over the next week. ‘Northern areas of Spain and Portugal and Southern areas of France expected to see highest amounts.’
