Gonzalo Garcia was introduced in place of Brahim Diaz after 53 minutes and assisted Vinicius Jr for the opener with his first touch. He won one of six duels and made one clearance, while completing 62% of his passes during the game. Prior to his appearance against Espanyol, he had played only 15 minutes of football for Arbeloa's side since March 14th.
Real Madrid picked up all three points as they visited Catalunya for a league meeting with Espanyol. Los Blancos won the game 2-0 to reduce the gap to leaders Barcelona to 11 points with four games to play.
Arbeloa's side struggled to break down their opponents in the first half, but it took only ten minutes of the second half for them to open the scoring. Gonzalo Garcia teed up Vinicius Jr with his first touch since coming off the bench, allowing the Brazilian star to find the net.
Vinicius Jr scored the second goal of the game in the 66th minute, finishing off a smart flick from Jude Bellingham. They kept a clean sheet and claimed a vital win ahead of facing Barcelona at the Spotify Camp Nou next Sunday.
