A gripping psychological thriller that has divided viewers is now ready for a one-night binge session.
The Boy That Never Was is a four-part Irish drama exploring the story of a child who appears to come back from the dead five years after vanishing during an earthquake.
Breaking away from typical crime dramas centred on murder cases, the series draws from Karen Perry's 2014 novel and features Merlin star Colin Morgan alongside actress Toni O'Rourke.
Set initially in Tangier, the narrative follows Harry, portrayed by Colin, and Robin, portrayed by Toni, as they live a pleasant expat existence. The couple are bringing up their young son, Dillon, who is described as three years old, although he looks considerably younger.
Harry, who dabbles in art, dedicates his time to looking after Dillon and spending time with the laid-back local Cozimo (Callow), while Robin earns the family income working at a hotel. Their peaceful existence is torn apart when a catastrophic earthquake strikes, reports Wales Online.
Amidst the chaos, Dillon is presumed to have perished under the debris, while Harry makes it through after momentarily leaving to fetch a gift for Robin, abandoning his son in the process. Fast forward five years, and the pair have relocated to Dublin.
Robin has managed to move forward, carving out a career as an architect, yet Harry continues to be tormented by remorse and struggles to properly heal from the loss.
The drama intensifies when Harry becomes convinced he's spotted his son years down the line. But could it simply be his imagination?
Viewers flocked to IMDB to share their verdicts on the programme.
One reviewer commented: "Does get somewhat better, yet still not completely enough.
"This being a relatively short four-part mini-series, don't make the mistake of just watching one or two episodes believing you've seen all you need seeing... for it starts off totally in one direction, twists and turns in several (for some might be too many) and ends in another completely different... although possibly-probably not firmly enough for majority of viewers."
Another viewer remarked: "Four episodes, stretched out. There were a number of major plot developments, but it took an age to get to each one."
