Where Can I Safely Get Minecraft Java Edition for Free?

Hi everyone,

 

I've been wanting to get into Minecraft for a while, especially the Java Edition since it seems to have the best modding community. I’ve seen a lot of sites offering Minecraft Java Edition free download, but I’m not sure which ones are legit or if any are even safe.

 

I don’t want to risk downloading viruses or getting into legal trouble. Is there an official way to try it for free, or maybe a safe demo version? Any advice from experienced players would be greatly appreciated.
