Hong Kong’s coffin homes are the world’s smallest apartments. These apartments get as small as 16 square feet or 1.5 square meters. Inside these cabins, it’s impossible to stand up or even stretch your arms. Most coffin homes aren’t even wider than the resident’s shoulders or longer than the resident’s body. And despite this, they’re utilized as a living room, a kitchen, and a bedroom at the same time—within the same space. Around 200,000 people have no choice but to live in these homes in Hong Kong, which has had the world’s most expensive housing market for 14 years.

In this documentary, we’ll also spend a full day with a resident who has lived in a coffin home for 16 years.
