It is new machine day and our biggest workshop upgrade has finally arrived. This is a start to finish look at unloading it, moving it, a walkaround tour and firing it up for the very first time.
After months of planning and weeks of workshop restructuring, a 40’ foot shipping container rolls in carrying our newest and largest machine. Getting it out is no small task. The clearances are tight, it is bolted to a steel skid, and every move has to be precise once the doors open.
The container is placed in the yard with a swing lift side loader before the move is handed over to the team from Scotts Cranes and Transport with their AT40 Franna. With limited access and no holes for lifting bars, the lathe must be dragged clear of the container, skated out carefully, and unwrapped for its first proper look. The size and scale of it hits straight away!
Our new Megabore ESP Machturn SP61160 x 6000 heavy duty lathe is built for serious work and will be a game changer for our business. It weighs 17.7 Tonne, spans more than 9 metres, has a 1.6 metre swing, can hold 6 metres between centres and is set to become the powerhouse of our workshop.
Once the lathe is moved inside and in position, we take you through the first walkaround and show every part of the machine including all the layout, features and accessories. From there we move on to getting the power connected, setting up the hydraulic tank and firing it up for the very first time.
