Donald Trump has undermined Keir Starmer's bid to create a joint European defence policy as he deepends his relationship with European black sheep, Viktor Orban.

Orban is locked in a bitter war with Brussels over his rejection of illegal migrants and intevention in Ukraine. Donald Trump's Secretary of State this week endorsed the Hungarian prime minister in his bid for reelection to a fifth term.

Sir Keir Starmer may be the first post-war prime minister to find himself out of favour with a US President who has a much closer relationship with another European power.
