Rancher builds 'Mad Max' gate to block smugglers, migrants along Texas border

Bill Martin's family has been ranching in Carrizo Springs for generations, but his morning routine around the ranch is very different from that of his ancestors.

Martin still checks on the cattle and completes the usual ranch tasks, but he also picks up trash left behind by migrants. He ensures no structures have been broken into. As he drives his truck around the property, he checks gates and fences for holes left by people trying to sneak across the land.

Ranchers along the Texas border, including Martin, are trying to keep smugglers, drug mules, and migrants off of their properties.
