Price reduction for Leinster football round one games

Leinster GAA officials have approved a decision to cut adult stand ticket prices for the first round of its senior football championship. For the three opening round games adult stand tickets will now fall from €25 to €15. This will apply to the clashes of Wexford-Laois in Chadwicks Wexford Park on 5 April; Meath v Carlow in Páirc Tailteann and Longford v Wicklow in Glennon Brothers Park - with both of those games coming a day later. This move had been on the cards for some time but was formally approved by Central Council on Monday night. It's possible that the provincial SFC quarter-finals the following weekend could also be priced similarly, but no decision has been taken in this regard. Leinster GAA officials are looking to bring more supporters to their games and to make them more accessible given poor attendances. Meanwhile, a move to take the semi finals out of Croke Park is also being considered and could be put before Leinster Central Competitions Control Committee. Dublin have dominated the province for the last decade and a half but crowds have largely been poor in recent seasons. Last year’s first round attendances were down slightly on the previous year and with league finals coming just beforehand, and games flowing rapidly, the Council last night approved the €15 ticket for the opening rounds of the provincial football series.
