Your Childhood Console Is Now a Collector’s Dream

Who would have thought a simple video game, bought for just a few euros decades ago, could now be worth a fortune? Indeed, collectors today willingly pay crazy sums for retro cartridges.
Recently, when a copy of the original Super Mario Bros. for NES sold for no less than 1.7 million euros, it’s hard not to glance nostalgically towards the family attic. Let’s hope your parents kept everything. Even worse, they might have given it all to your little cousin!
Meanwhile, classic games attract astronomical bids. At the same time, ultra-rare gaming consoles now sell for mind-blowing amounts.
Consoles Worth Their Weight in Gold
Sometimes, a small detail can transform an ordinary console into an extraordinary collector’s item: just one signature, such as Phil Spencer’s autograph on an Xbox, instantly skyrockets its appeal to devoted enthusiasts. Even more often, ultra-rare prototypes or forgotten variations—such as a Super NES with a red power button—drive collectors wild. Though seemingly trivial, these little details become significant treasures, as tech magazine Phonandroid notes.
Thus, when Paul Smith, who appraises items sold by the British Heart Foundation through eBay, stumbled upon an original Xbox console that appeared peculiar, he immediately realized he had found something truly special. Curious and determined, he began researching, eager to uncover the secrets behind this mysterious console.
A Green Xbox Like Hulk… And as Expensive as a Treasure
Fluorescent green with a bright Hulk logo at its center—and topped off with the Pepsi emblem—this special-edition Xbox is certainly an otherworldly sight. Designed in 2003 to accompany the release of the Hulk film starring Eric Bana, this ultra-exclusive console never reached store shelves. Only 50 units existed, 36 of them distributed as prizes at British cinema contests, their remaining counterparts possibly still guarded by lucky collectors or long since lost over time.
Until now, none of these elusive consoles had reappeared online. Yet, when one finally showed up on eBay, bidding quickly became frenzied. Nostalgia, cultural prestige, or both? Whatever the reason, this exceptional item once again demonstrated that certain collector’s pieces are now valued well beyond their initial cost.
A Console Sold at a Premium Price
Finally, after an intense bidding war between eager collectors, the Hulk-themed Xbox sold for nearly 9,100 euros following a staggering 62 bids. A handsome sum indeed for this rare (and vividly green) console. Clearly, nostalgia and exclusivity are powerful enough to drive prices through the roof.
Making this auction even more memorable: the console originally turned up as a charitable donation to the British Heart Foundation. Did its original owner have any idea of its immense value? Perhaps not. But whatever the case, this generous donation raised an impressive amount, benefiting vital cardiovascular disease research.
