New Tesla Model Y gets first software update: What to expect?

Now, Tesla has officially started deploying its first software update for the recently refreshed Model Y. The latest 2025.8.6 software update adds a Beta version of the new Auto Shift feature. This software update has been deployed over the past few days across other Tesla models such as Model 3, Model X, and Model S. Some owners have even shared images of the updated software on social media.
Although some users have pointed out that the new Model Y already had Auto-Shift enabled, the latest update includes a more advanced version of the feature that allows three-point turns, whereas previous versions only allowed it to get out of park. Tesla Auto Shift: How it works?
In the 2025.8.6 software update, Tesla introduced an enhanced version of the Auto Shift (beta) feature for the refreshed Model Y. This functionality assists drivers by automatically shifting between Park (P), Drive (D), and Reverse (R) based on the vehicle’s surroundings, streamlining maneuvers such as parking and multipoint turns without requiring touchscreen input.
To enable Auto Shift features, users need to navigate to Vehicle Settings > Pedals & Steering > Auto Shift (Beta) > On. Users should verify that the selected gear aligns with their intended direction before pressing the accelerator. If Auto Shift does not engage as expected, manual shifting via the touchscreen remains available.
