Joel Connolly and Fergal Quinn beaten in Q School 1

IRISH pair Joel Connolly and Fergal Quinn lost their respective second-round matches at Q School 1 in Leicester on Thursday.Connolly had enjoyed a comfortable win in his opening match, but seasoned former pro Andrew Higginson was a tough opponent for him and it proved a bridge too far for the 17-year-old from Belfast. He did win the first two frames, but the Lancastrian took control from there and reeled off four in a row, helped by breaks of 50 and 65.Coalisland’s Quinn, a semi-finalist at the World Amateur Championship in Morocco earlier in the year, had the two highest breaks of his game with England’s Mark Bell, but lost 4-1.Both men now turn their attention to Q School 2, which starts on Tuesday. The four semi-finalists from that will join World Snooker’s Main Tour for next season along with the four semi-finalists from Q School 1.The Main Tour action starts on June 30.
