‘Star Wars: Starfighter’ Reveals First Look at Ryan Gosling

Director posted a photo to Instagram on Wednesday of the actor in costume, offering the first look from the film’s shoot. Gosling and co-star Flynn Gray are seen posing with the Mediterranean Sea behind them.

“Somewhere in the Mediterranean Sea #Starfighter,” Levy captioned the image.

is set to release the film on May 28, 2027, after announcing the date earlier this year at Star Wars Celebration in Tokyo. Plot details have not been revealed, but the stand-alone movie is set roughly five years after the events of 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, which was the last title from the franchise to hit theaters. Director Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian & Grogu is set for theatrical release on May 22, 2026, as a spinoff to the Disney+ series The Mandalorian.

Matt Smith, Mia Goth, Aaron Pierre, Simon Bird, Jamael Westman, Daniel Ings and Amy Adams round out the cast for Star Wars: Starfighter.

“The reality is that this script is just so good. It has such a great story with great and original characters,” Gosling told the crowd at the April fan event. “It’s filled with so much heart and adventure, and there just really is not a more perfect filmmaker for this particular story than Shawn.”

Jonathan Tropper penned the script for the feature that Levy has been developing since 2022. Levy and Kathleen Kennedy serve as producers.

Levy’s recent directorial credits include Disney’s smash hit Deadpool & Wolverine and Netflix’s The Adam Project.

Gosling can be seen next year as the lead in Amazon MGM Studios’ Project Hail Mary.
