Cork, Kerry and Waterford will be placed under a Status Yellow rain warning at 2pm today. It will expire at 9am tomorrow morning. Met Eireann warned those counties may experience localised flooding and difficult travelling conditions as a result of heavy rain.
Met Eireann's forecast for today says cloud will continue to build from the west today with rain developing in the west and southwest in the early afternoon, extending eastwards to all areas by early evening. Highest afternoon temperatures of 4 to 8 degrees are forecast with light to moderate southerly winds increasing fresh to strong later.
Tonight will be a wet night for most with widespread rain, turning heavy at times with potential for localised flooding. A clearance will move into western and northwestern areas towards morning.
It will become milder for a time before cooler conditions develop behind the rain. Lowest temperatures of 5 to 10 degrees are forecast in fresh south to southwest winds, light to moderate in the north and west.
During the first day of meteorological winter, tomorrow morning, heavy rain will gradually clear with bright spells for a time. However, further showers will spread from the west through the day. Highest temperatures of 7 to 11 degrees in light to moderate south to southwest winds.
Here is Met Eireann's national outlook for the coming days:
