There's Obviously A LOT Of Controversy Over The 2026 USA National Parks Pass
The Trump Administration Is Being Sued Over Who They Put On The 2026 National Parks Pass
Donald Trump has made some changes to National Parks in the US.
First of all, starting January 1, international visitors will have to pay $250
for an America the Beautiful pass. US residents will continue to pay $80 for the same pass.
Secondly, Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Juneteenth are
no longer listed as "resident-only patriotic fee-free days."
They've been replaced by "Flag Day/President Trump's birthday."
Now, let's talk about the passes themselves.
There are some new designs, like this one:
And the most controversial of them all, this one:
Now, an environmental group is suing over that last Trump/Washington one.
The Center for Biological Diversity
says federal agencies broke the law by putting Trump's picture on the 2026 America the Beautiful pass instead of the public-chosen winning photo. In case you didn't know, the Federal Lands Recreation Enhancement Act requires a public photo contest to choose the image that appears on the Annual Pass.
According to the
lawsuit, the government turned the pass into a political statement by replacing the winning Glacier National Park photo with Trump’s portrait: "The Secretaries have violated the statute’s requirements for public participation, along with its conservation, recreational, and educational purposes, by unlawfully turning the Annual America the Beautiful Pass into a partisan political platform for President Trump."
The lawsuit also says, "The official rules governing the contest require that 'the photo must be taken on federal public lands or waters' and any submissions that are 'are highly controversial, inappropriate, indecent or obscene' are disqualified. The rules allow disqualification of images that have been 'noticeably and/or excessively altered.'"
Sooo, what do you think? Was this image "noticeably and or/excessively altered" or simply just "highly controversial, inaproppriate, indecent or obscene?"
