Steven Spielberg’s films are always treated to huge waves of enthusiasm from fans but this latest one may be the most anticipated yet.
The legendary director will finally return to his extraterrestrial legacy after 20 years with a brand new movie focusing on an alien invasion.
He’s renowned for making iconic films such as Close Encounters of the Third Kind, War of the Worlds and, of course, ET.
Disclosure Day, slated for release in June, will be his first return to sci-fi since 2018’s Ready Player One.
The first trailer features Emily Blunt making some unsettling noises and Josh O’Connor standing in a big crop circle.
If that wasn’t enough to get you to the cinema, Colin Firth is also here, having what we can only imagine is a rough day at the office.

Fans are already setting their expectations high, dubbing it the ‘return of the king’ (using a Lord of the Rings gif) in a nod to his history in the genre.
X user tashakappler said they were ‘a little surprised to see this lean more towards Taken’ but added: ‘I love a good crop circle’.
Film journalist Alistair Ryder enthusiastically said we have a ‘banger incoming’, praising the marked tonal difference from Close Encounters.
Joe Russo (not that one) added Spielberg fans were ‘eating GOOD’ as the teaser hinted at the importance of recurring red birds.
Some shared Ayo Edibiri’s classic tweet, which has become a well-used meme, in which she said: ‘I’m seated. The theater employees are scared and asking me to leave because it’s ‘not August yet’ but I’m simply too seated.’

‘Looks like we have another Spielberg genre summer blockbuster on our hands. Loving the atmosphere. Disclosure Day is one of my most anticipated of next summer!’, wrote Anthony Dapuzzo.
Others branded it the ‘best film of 2026’, joining highly anticipated blockbusters like Nolan’s The Odyssey, the new Hunger Games, and controversial Wuthering Heights.
Very little is known about Disclosure Day’s plot, with the teaser giving away tiny snippets suggesting a worldwide crisis that has everyone from animals to nuns invested.
The longline reads: ‘If you found out we weren’t alone, if someone showed you, proved it to you, would that frighten you? This summer, the truth belongs to seven billion people. We are coming close to … Disclosure Day.’

It’s an interesting sell, considering there are in fact eight billion people on planet earth – only time will tell if that’s a plot point or an oversight.

Disclosure Day’s story is by Spielberg, while his longtime collaborator David Koepp wrote the screenplay.
The dynamic duo were the force behind Jurassic Park, War of the Worlds and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
It marks Spielberg’s first directing endeavour since 2022’s The Fabelmans, which scored him seven Oscar nominations. So we have high hopes for Disclosure Day.
Disclosure Day is slated for theatrical release on June 12, 20216.
