Dramatic update on jailed neo-Nazi Joel Davis as he's held in a 'punishment cell' at Sydney's Long Bay prison over alleged rape threat: 'National security threat'

A controversial right-wing figure has claimed a prominent neo-Nazi is being held in a 'punishment block' at Sydney's Long Bay prison after allegedly threatening to 'rhetorically rape' a federal independent MP.

Australian far-right activist Blair Cottrell used social media to update followers on the conditions of jailed National Socialist Network member Joel Davis, who has been in custody since November.

In a five-minute video, Cottrell said it was the first time he had spoken directly to the 30-year-old, who was arrested after allegedly making a series of menacing online threats.

He claimed Davis was being held in a punishment ward at Long Bay, confined to a cell without a shower or television.

Cottrell alleged Davis was sometimes denied access to showers, claiming prison staff decided when he could bathe by escorting him to another block.

He said Davis had been classified by prison authorities as a national security threat,  which he said had caused him to be stripped of his basic prison rights.

According to Cottrell, Davis does not have access to a Bible and is unable to see a priest or chaplain while in custody.

Davis was arrested on November 20 at Bennett Street Dairy Cafe in Bondi, where staff later described him as a polite regular customer.

He has been charged with using a carriage service to harass a federal parliamentarian, after allegedly urging members of a Telegram group chat to 'rhetorically rape' independent Wentworth MP Allegra Spender.

The court heard Davis had only recently moved from Melbourne to Sydney to live with his partner Ivona Tomaskovicova, who was nine months pregnant at the time of his arrest.

Davis subsequently missed the birth of his son while in custody.

The Daily Mail does not suggest Ms Tomaskovicova is racist, simply that she is Davis's partner and shares a child with him.

During bail proceedings, Legal Aid lawyer Liam McKibbin argued Davis would comply with strict conditions, including staying at least 100 metres away from Ms Spender's electorate office and limiting his access to electronic devices.

Mr McKibbin also submitted that Davis was unlikely to receive a full-time custodial sentence if convicted, while acknowledging the strength of the prosecution case.

Questions have been raised about how Ms Tomaskovicova is affording Bondi's high rental costs given Davis is in custody and had publicly admitted to financial difficulties prior to his arrest.

A day before he was apprehended, Davis told the ABC that money within the movement was scarce and that few members were being paid.

Many figures associated with the far right have reportedly been de-banked, with private companies freezing accounts and cutting off fundraising avenues.

As a result, National Socialist Network supporters have allegedly been asked to send cash donations via envelopes to a PO Box.

The heightened agitation within far-right groups has coincided with threats directed at journalists reporting on their activities.

Davis was arrested shortly after revealing the identity of influencer Nathalie Faydherbe, the wife of South African-born NSN member Matthew Gruter.

Mr Gruter was later detained by immigration authorities following his attendance at an anti-Jewish rally outside NSW Parliament House.

He, Ms Faydherbe and their newborn child left Australia voluntarily in December after his visa was cancelled.

The Daily Mail does not suggest Ms Faydherbe is racist, simply that she is Gruter's wife and the mother of his child.

Footage captured by the Daily Mail showed the couple arriving in Johannesburg with their baby, where Mr Gruter lashed out at photographers and accused media of putting his family at risk.

Cottrell, who provided the update on Davis's alleged prison conditions, first came to prominence in the mid-2010s as a founding member of the United Patriots Front.

He later became associated with other extremist groups, including the Lads Society, and is widely regarded by authorities and anti-extremism groups as a prominent figure within Australia's modern neo-Nazi movement, despite not being an active member of the NSN.
