True Green Announce New Album 'Hail Disaster': Hear "Italian Lightning"

About this time last year, Minneapolis-based trio True Green followed their 2024 debut album My Lost Decade with two new songs, "Consider The Priesthood" and "Falconry." Turns out those are part of a larger project: their sophomore album Hail Distaster, out March 24 on Spacecase Records. The announcement is accompanied by the new single "Italian Lightning," which hit Bandcamp this afternoon.True Green is led by Dan Hornsby with Tailer Ransom and Peter Miller. Hornsby, the group's songwriter and vocalist, has some unforgettable lyrics (which isn't necessarily surprising given that he's a published novelist). His casual and wise narration makes for a comfy comparison to the Microphones or Silver Jews. "Italian Lightning" is no exception. "I'm a hotel by the airport/ You're a timeshare by the sea," goes one line. Musically, there's an ease and softness to the track that feels very 2000s indie rock, like Wilco or Guster. On Bandcamp, Hornsby shared a message alluding to ICE's ongoing occupation of his hometown: "Dropping the first single off the new album early for bandcamp. Shit's pretty rough here in Minneapolis. All proceeds go to a mutual aid operation we have going for vulnerable families in the Twin Cities if you buy it today or tomorrow."Hear "Italian Lightning" below, and buy it here.Hail Disaster is out 3/26 via Spacecase Records.
