A terrified dog died after teenagers kicked down his owner's door as part of a disturbing new internet trend.
Dissany Cid, 42, that her three-year-old Yorkshire terrier Spookie ran away after a group of teenagers kicked in her door in December.
She believes the teens were doing the 'door-kick challenge' - a TikTok trend in which teenagers sneak onto someone's property and smash in their front door.
Spookie was later found dead after being hit by a car.
'It's devastating,' she told WESH. 'I feel like I failed him.'
'If it was just my door, I don't care about my door. Break my windows, I could care less about that. But he didn't deserve that,' she said.
Cid has been calling for justice since the pup's death, but her evidence is limited because her Ring doorbell camera wasn't working at the time.
However the Volusia County Sheriff's Office told WESH on Monday that they are taking a second look at the case.
Dissany Cid, 42, said that her three-year-old Yorkshire terrier, Spookie, died after a group of teens doing the so–called 'door kick challenge' smashed in her door
Cid said that Spookie got out and ran away because he was scared
The sheriff's office described the incident as a group of teens playing 'ding dong ditch.'
Deputies told the local news station they are pursuing charges against the person they say is responsible.
The suspect has not been identified, and it is unclear what charges will be filed. Daily Mail contacted the Volusia County Sheriff's Office for more information.
Cid said she is hopeful the charges will help her move forward with her healing, but does not want the person to serve jail time. She hopes they will do community service instead.
'I need closure,' she said. 'This is just something that shouldn't have happened.'
Incidents of children kicking the front doors of strangers' homes and causing damage have been on the rise in recent months.
In November, at least five youngsters were arrested in Elk Grove, California, for kicking in doors and causing hundreds of dollars' worth of damage in at least eight different incidents.
In one case, surveillance footage released by police showed two youths, one in a ski mask and the other with his hood up, backing into a front door before booting it at full force and running away.

The children caused more than $680 in damages, according to law enforcement, who issued a stern warning about the dangers of a seemingly innocuous online prank.
'We want to use this as an opportunity to remind our community that while trends like this may seem like harmless fun, they can have serious consequences,' the Elk Grove Police Department wrote.
The teenagers could face felony charges if the damages caused by the social media trend exceed $400, per California law.
