Tom Holland’s next action movie is none other than Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and it will be unlike anything he has ever done. Tom Holland has starred in a variety of movies across different genres, from disaster drama with The Impossible to psychological crime with The Devil All the Time, but he’s best known for his work as Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Holland made his debut as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in 2016 in Captain America: Civil War before starring in Spider-Man: Homecoming the following year. Since then, Holland has played the character in six MCU movies, soon to be seven with Spider-Man: Brand New Day, set to arrive on July 31st, 2026.
At the time of writing, Tom Holland isn’t confirmed to appear in Avengers: Doomsday.
Although official plot details about Spider-Man: Brand New Day are still unknown, and no trailers or teasers have been released, it’s one of the most anticipated movies of the year – and it’s on its way to being unlike any other movie Holland has made so far.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day Will Have Much Better Fight Scenes

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is the first MCU Spider-Man movie not directed by Jon Watts. Instead, Marvel brought Shang-Chi’s director Destin Daniel Cretton back to direct Spider-Man’s new adventure. That said, Brand New Day is set after the ending of No Way Home, where Doctor Strange cast a spell that made everyone forget Peter Parker.
Brand New Day will be a fresh start for Spider-Man, who will now be more of a street-level hero and will come across characters like the Punisher (Jon Bernthal). As such, Brand New Day is expected to have a different tone than Spider-Man’s previous MCU movies, and it all points to it having much better fight scenes.
Not only has Cretton already shown his talent as an action director in Shang-Chi, which has the best combat scenes in the MCU so far, but Brand New Day also has Jackie Chan involved.
Although Chan is not part of the cast of Brand New Day, he explained in 2025 that his stunt team is working with Cretton on this movie, which is an exciting tease of the type of action the new Spider-Man movie will have.
Tom Holland's Spider-Man Trilogy Was Missing Hand-To-Hand Fights

Although the MCU’s Spider-Man is a fan favorite, it hasn’t been safe from criticism. One of the most criticized elements of Holland’s Spider-Man movies is that the character has been thrown into big-scale conflicts from the beginning, and his fights have relied on his gadgets rather than his combat abilities.
Spider-Man finally being a street-level hero will give him the hand-to-hand fights the character has been missing, through which Peter can show how much he has grown as a superhero. It’s worth noting that Peter might not have access to the same technology as before, so he will have to rely on his combat skills, agility, and more.
How Brand New Day Will Reinvent The MCU's Spider-Man Franchise

The MCU chose to skip Spider-Man’s origin story, which was great after having watched it in the Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield movies. However, this prevented the MCU from showing Spider-Man doing what he’s most applauded for: being a street-level hero.
I’m not saying that the adventures the MCU has given to Holland’s Spider-Man are bad and boring, because they are very exciting, but they have also led to Peter being attached to a mentor figure and not exploring his full potential as a hero.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day can finally give the web-slinger the time and space he needs to be himself as both Peter and Spider-Man, explore his time as a street-level hero, and see how he’s dealing all by himself, as he no longer has his loved ones and colleagues by his side after Strange’s spell.
