■ World

Philabieldia: A Content Overrun by Beast Tribes

Elliot’s tale is set in a world filled with monsters and beastmen. Humans live tucked away in a corner of the realm, their kingdom protected from threats beyond its walls by a magic barrier.

Age of Safekeeping

The Kingdom of Huther stands in one corner of Philabieldia. Ruled by King Hichard, the people are able to live peacefully thanks to Princess Heuria’s spell of Safekeeping, which protects the kingdom from the beast tribes.

Elliot will begin his adventure in this Age of Safekeeping, and forge into the past through the Age of Reconstruction, the Age of Magic and the Age of Budding.

■ Characters

Elliot (voiced by Phillip Reich in English, Ryota Osaka in Japanese)

The hero of this tale, a compassionate young man who can’t turn a blind eye to those in need. He makes his living as an adventurer, earning rewards for helping the townspeople with their requests.

Elliot knows neither of his parents and grew up in the kingdom’s orphanage. He donates a portion of his earnings to the orphanage and helps looks after the younger orphans in between his adventures.

Faie (voiced by Brenna Larsen in English, Rua Miyauchi in Japanese)

A fairy that only Elliot is able to see or hear. With her unique fairy magic, she supports Elliot on his journey as a trusty sidekick.

Her memories from before meeting Elliot are hazy at best, and throughout the adventure, she can’t help but feel she’s forgetting something important.

Princess Heuria (voiced by Sura Siu in English, Manaka Iwami in Japanese)

Princess of the Kingdom of Huther. Her innate magic powers allow her to cast the spell of Safekeeping that protects the kingdom. For this reason, though she longs to see the outside world, she must remain in the castle to maintain the spell.

Her fair and kindhearted nature has earned her the love and respect of the kingdom’s people.

King Ichard (voiced by Brent Mukai in English, Takehito Koyasu in Japanese)

The king of Huther. A benevolent ruler with a strong sense of responsibility who ever prioritizes his country’s wellbeing. He holds fast to the royal precept, “Be not a prisoner of power,” and governs Huther with a steady hand.

At the same time, he worries for his daughter, Heuria, who must continue casting the spell of Safekeeping.

Kaifried (voiced by Brad Davidorf in English, Junichi Suwabe in Japanese)

The king’s shrewd minister, who is also a capable swordsman.

He takes issue with King Hichard’s conservative rule and reliance on Princess Heuria’s magic, and what that means for the kingdom, and instead endorses proactively acquiring new magics to secure the kingdom’s future.

Euygene (voiced by Willow Engel in English, Hiro Shimono in Japanese)

The royal scholar, foremost in the kingdom in magic research. He was once an adventurer, but lacking the talent for it, gave up early on.

Though still young, he has earned the king’s trust, and is thus able to recommend his old friend Elliot for the task of exploring some newly discovered ruins.

■ System: Elliot’s Actions

As Elliot, the player will freely adventure over the expansive continent of used interchangeably to do battle with Philabieldia beastmen . Various weapons found along the way may be and explore caves and ruins.

—Two weapons may be equipped at once. Watch the enemy’s movements to determine when to strike.

—Most weapons have a special attack that may be unleashed by holding the attack button to charge up.

Swords

Swords may be swung quickly to attack in a wide range, making them easy to use. Charge up their special attack to send slashes flying!

Shields

Be aware that shields can only defend against frontal attacks, and not those to the back or sides. Learn to raise your guard at just the right time for an edge in battle.

Bows

A bow’s regular attack fires one arrow per shot, but its special attack fires multiple arrows out in a fan at the cost of a single arrow.

Boomerangs

A boomerang is dangerous during its entire flight, so a skillful throw can knock enemies on both the departure and the return.

Bombs

Bombs explode a short time after they’re set, and their explosions pack a punch. They can also be used to demolish certain rocks and cracked walls.

Spears

Spears are good for doling out repeated attacks directly ahead and out of the enemy’s melee range. Their special attack is a forward charge.

Hammers

Hammers are slow to swing but hard hitting, and their special attack changes to a downward blow. They can also be used to pound pegs into the ground.

Chains and Sickles

Chains and sickles are multifaceted weapons that allow for attacking at range or in the surrounding circumference. Their special attack can pull enemies in close.

Exploit all of Elliot’s various actions in every corner of the map to discover new areas and sites to explore. After learning a new action, come back to places you’ve been before to potentially make a new discovery.

—Use dynamic attacks to cross scattered terrain.

—Dive under logs blocking your way.

■ System: Faie’s Actions

Elliot’s fairy sidekick Faie is there to support him on his adventure. She can use her special magic abilities to find a way tricks and traps lying in wait for Elliot, and will even join the adventurer in battle. Faie’s cooperation is key to productive adventuring.

—Faie will pick up nearby items and help pick on enemies.

—The player can control Faie directly with the R stick, or a second player can control her in local co-op.

■ System: Faie’s Special Abilities

Faie will learn new magic abilities during her journey. Some obstacles blocking Elliot’s progress can only be overcome with fairy magic, so actively put any new magic she learns to the test.

—The magic “sprint” puts high speed into Elliot’s step. Use it to solve puzzles, or just get where you’re going that much more quickly.

—The magic “warp” transports Elliot to wherever Faie is in an instant. It has multiple uses, such as dodging attacks and obstacles or getting into a favorable position behind the enemy.

Should Elliot lose all his vitality and fall in battle, Faie can bring him back to life. You can continue the adventure from exactly where it was interrupted.

—Resurrection by Faie comes at a price: tul, the currency of Philabieldia. Consider your finances and surroundings before deciding to jump back into action.

■ System: Magicite

Bring magicite fragments you find to the magicite shop to have them formed into whole pieces of magicite with special effects. Various pieces of magicite can be equipped as a set that confers their combined effects to Elliot’s weapons. Find the combinations that suit your playstyle and give you the advantage in battle. Magicite fragments can be found as random loot dropped by defeated enemies and in treasure chests among other places.

—Magicite is formed at a shop in town from magicite fragments. You won’t know what magicite you’ll get until it’s formed, but you can select type you hope to get according to weapon.

—The more magicite you form, the higher your rank will go, giving you a better chance at forming rarer types of magicite.

Each piece of magicite has a fixed cost to equip, and you can equip as much as will fit within the total cost available. Try adjusting your magicite sets to find combinations that generally complement one another or are optimized for specific areas or battles.

—Keep your total equippable cost in mind when selecting magicite. The magicite shopkeeper is able to raise your cost limit for a not-so-modest fee.

Sword Magicite

Effects for customizing your sword and shield. Fortify your defenses, or conversely weaken them for the ability to execute devastating counterattacks.

—Combine magicite that offers omnidirectional defense following sword attacks with magicite that powers up attacks after guarding for the ideal marriage of offense and defense.

—Intentionally use your shield past its breaking point to take advantage of magicite that adds flying slashes to your attacks while you’re unable to defend. Sets can be designed to test a player’s capacity for navigating risk and reward.

Spear Magicite

Extend your polearm’s reach even further than the enemy’s range, or unlock another weapon’s potential by virtue of combining it with a spear.

—A number of magicite types will enhance weapons used in the few seconds after swinging a spear. See how different weapon affinities stack up.

—Combine magicite that extends the movement range of special attacks with magicite that imparts invulnerability during a special attack to break right through enemy lines. Add in magicite that shortens special attack charge time to break your way right back out.
