An abandoned country mansion steeped in history near the village of Portlaw is to go under the hammer at an online auction, with major potential for a redevelopment and renewal.Mayfield House and Tannery, Portlaw, County Waterford, is to be auctioned by the online platform Bidx1.com with a guide price €795,000 next week.A bidder security of €10,000 is required but is fully refundable if unsuccessful to the bidder. The auction will take place on Thursday, February 12, at 10.30am.The former country manor estate, tannery and surrounding lands contain potential for a range of uses. The total site area extends to around 10.5 hectares (26 acres), and is currently a vacant possession.The property is arranged to provide a historical estate located within an irregular shaped parcel of land. The property was originally built in 1740 and underwent improvements in the 1840s giving the distinguished Italian style that can still be seen today.The property benefits from a large site area, and former tannery buildings to the rear of the main house, offering significant development potential, subject to obtaining all necessary planning consents.
