Adolescence wins top honour at the star-studded Broadcast Awards as Netflix enjoys triple triumph

Netflix and Adolescence were the big winners at the 2026 Broadcast Awards at the at the JW Marriott Grosvenor House in London on Wednesday.

The platform won a triple triumph at the ceremony as it became the first streamer to win the Broadcaster of the Year Award. 

It's hugely successful drama Adolescence took home the Best Drama award and Grenfell: Uncovered, also by Netflix, won Best Documentary Programme. 

The BBC won the largest number of awards with nine - including Best Comedy for Here We Go and Best Specialist Factual Programme for Helmand: Tour Of Duty. 

Like Netflix, Channel 4 also won three awards; Best Factual Entertainment for Virgin Island, Best Comedy Drama for Big Boys and Best Current Affairs for State of Rage. 

Sky News won for Best News Programme while it's programme Bibaa & Nicole: Murder in the Park won Best Documentary Series.

Other winners included AppleTV's Slow Horses which took home Best Returning Drama and Prime Video's Last One Laughing which won Best Entertainment Programme. 

The awards also has two special categories; ITV's Long Lost Family was inducted into the Hall of Fame and TV producer and former controller of BBC One Lorraine Heggessey won the Special Recognition Award. 

It comes after Adolescence writer Stephen Graham has confirmed there are plans for a second season in the coming years.

The actor, 52, won the Golden Globe for Best Male Actor in a Limited Series, Anthology Series or Motion Picture Made for Television for his stellar role in hard-hitting Netflix drama.

Speaking to Deadline after his win, Stephen was asked about the potential for another season.

He said: 'I cannot answer that question. It's somewhere in the deep recesses of my mind and (co-creator) Jack (Thorne)'s mind, and we'll pull it out in three or four years, so stay tuned.' 

Stephen previously said if Adolescence does return for a second season, it likely wouldn't focus on the Miller family and could become an anthology series.

He told Variety: 'It still is a possibility… If we were to go again, would I like it to go again? With a different story completely? Yes.

'It was always made very intently as a little British story, and I think that was the beauty of it,' he shared.

'We didn't expect it to transcend the way it did, but we were very true. I think it was because it was made with truth, integrity, respect and a lot of love.'

In the show, Stephen's character is forced to deal with the devastating aftermath of his teenage son's arrest for the murder of a female classmate.
