Two dead in fire on bulk carrier Mandy

Two crew members of Singapore-registered bulk carrier Mandy have been reported deceased after an engine fire broke out off the coast of China, according to the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).The fire, which broke out at around 1935 hrs on 17 February, has since been extinguished by the crew, who reported two deaths and the evacuation of a third seafarer to a medical facility on shore.The MPA said there were no reports of pollution and that the company was making arrangements for the ship to be towed to Yantai Port, China. MPA will investigate the incident.According to the Equasis database, 2010-built Mandy is managed by Pacific Rim Shipmanagement. The ship was detained for 15 days after an inspection at Rotterdam in June 2025 found 25 deficiencies, including nine grounds for detention.Seven deficiencies were found in the fire safety category, including two “inoperative” defects under "ready availability of fire fighting equipment" and one under "means of control (opening/pump) Machinery spaces".
