Love is in the air at the 2026 Winter Olympics, where several athletes have gotten engaged (including ski champ Breezy Johnson and former skating rivals Olivia Smart and Jean-Luc Baker). The latest Olympians to put a ring on it: Team USA’s Brittany Bowe and Hilary Knight, who announced their engagement on February 18 in a sweet Instagram post.
After Team USA’s hockey team captain Hilary popped the question to her speed skater girlfriend, she posted a video of the moment, writing, “Olympics brought us together. This one made us forever.” Because yes, not only did these two get engaged at the Olympics—they also have the Winter Games to thank for bringing them together four years earlier.
View full post on InstagramWhile Hilary and Brittany vaguely knew each other for years, their relationship really deepened in 2022 at the Beijing Games, which—in case you forgot—took place in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. As Brittany revealed to People last month ahead of the 2026 Games, it was “kind of cool” to be “in this bubble” together during those weeks...especially since it gave them a chance to connect without distractions.
“Hilary would ask, like, ‘Oh, do you want to go for a walk after dinner?’ And that was our first date, going to walk around the Olympic Village masked because everyone was so fearful of getting COVID,” Brittany explained.
It was during those walks that Brittany really got to know Hilary outside of her “Captain America” moniker. During an interview with Olympics.com, she explained how “when we got to know each other, [Hilary] was soft, genuine, kind, almost shy. That really sparked my interest.”
View full post on InstagramAccording to Brittany, she knew “very quickly” that Hilary would be in her life for a long time, and they “have really been inseparable ever since.” The couple now shares a home in Salt Lake City...where they’ll be returning as fiancées!
