Meath GAA club season underway with pre-season cup competitions

In the same group Rathkenny made the long trip to Ballinabrackey worthwhile as they recorded a 0-7 to 0-3 win in atrocious conditions. It was their first outing of the campaign after their opening round tie against Dunshaughlin fell foul of the weather.In Group B the clash of last year’s senior and intermediate champions resulted in a comprehensive win for Summerhill over Kilbride, 3-14 to 0-7, in a game played in Ashbourne. Kilbride are now out of contention following this second defeat.The final round clash of unbeaten Trim and Gaeil Colmcille will decide who finishes top in Group C, this after Trim registered a comprehensive 2-13 to 0-6 win over Dunboyne while the Kells men were also impressive in their 5-10 to 0-8 victory against Na Fianna.Trim led by the minimum at half-time, 0-6 to 0-5 but dominated the second half during which Daniel Murray struck for a brace of goals.Full forward Brian Hanlon hit three goals in Gaeil Colmcille’s facile win. Ajay Tormey and Zach Boshell also found the net.Skryne look set to top Group D as they followed up their opening round win over holders Wolfe Tones with a 1-19 to 2-6 victory over Simonstown.In the Corn na Boinne where three clubs are not taking part, Dunsany, Longwood and Blackhall Gaels, holders Castletown with former Hunterstown Rovers duo Sean Barry and Sean Kelly at the helm, made a winning start in Group B with a 1-14 to 0-11 win over Duleek-Bellewstown in Bellewstown.With only three teams in the group the outcome of the Castletown against Drumbaragh tie will decide who qualifies for the knockout stages.Colm Nally’s St Patrick’s picked up their second win in Group D, recording another high score as they easily overcame St Michael’s 3-16 to 0-6.Moynalvey clinched their spot in the knockout stages from Group A after defeating Meath Hill 0-15 to 0-3. The winners led 0-6 to 0-1 at half-time with Vinny Walsh taking the scoring honours with five points and Adam Murphy notching four.In the only game played so far in Group C Walterstown defeated O’Mahonys 3-17 to 3-8.In the Tailteann Cup Syddan recorded their second win in Group B when overcoming Curraha 2-11 to 1-6. Sean Clare and Michael Fedigan struck for the Syddan goals.St Vincent’s recorded their first win in Group C with a 1-12 to 1-10 victory over Dunderry. The local derby between Slane and St Mary’s in the same group had to be postponed and has been rescheduled for this Sunday in Slane at 11am.In Group A St Ultan’s and St Brigid’s share top spot after sharing the spoils 0-12 to 2-6 in Ballinacree.
