People sobbing family spot nan and grandad 'frozen in time' on Google Maps

People were emotional after a woman shared that her nan and uncle were "frozen in time" while doing their shopping. Losing members of your family or a close friend is a very difficult experience.One moment you're being raised or spending time with a person, and in an instant they are no longer just a phone call away. Loss can lead to many unanswered questions along with feelings of grief that can affect you both physically and mentally.This was true for Laura Jane, who has lost her uncle and nan.But after searching on Google Maps, she was astounded when she found her family members 'frozen in time' on Google Maps in Mountain Ash, in the Cynon Valley.She said: "My nan and uncle are still alive frozen in time doing their daily shopping together."Crazy feeling finding this today. I miss them both everyday."Google Maps was officially announced and launched on February 8, 2005, initially as a desktop web mapping service. The well known Street View function was then launched in 2007.Now Google Maps has functions to show live traffic updates, opening times of shops and restaurants and even reviews.Google typically updates Street View every one to three years, though there is no set schedule. However, there is an option which allows users to see pictures taken on previous dates on the same street.Laura shared what she found on her TikTok account, @janelaur15, where many other users shared their experiences of remembering people who have died.One person said: "My grandma and grandad were stood outside their old house and I used to go on from time to time as my grandad is gone now."A second added: "My mum is still on google earth in her driveway after parking her cae, she died in 2020."A third said: "There used to be a photo of my nan sat in her chair out the front of her house on Google Maps."It’s no longer there, I checked a few days ago so sad it’s a different image now of just the front of the house. So sad."A fourth said: "Stopppp I’ve just found my grandfather in front of his house in 2011 [crying emoji] it’ll be 10 years this year since he passed. Thanks for sharing."
