Ireland Weather - Country braces for weekend washout as more heavy rain and drizzle on the way

More heavy rain and drizzle is expected today and over the weekend, Met Eireann has said.

Weather bosses said while the downpours will typically linger in coastal areas and also warned off "breezy conditions".

Met Eireann warned there could be more heavy rain on Friday and said there was also a chance of "hail" in parts of the country.

They said: "Cloudy with outbreaks of rain and drizzle becoming widespread throughout the morning.

"The rain will gradually clear to the southeast with outbreaks lingering on coastal fringes in the south and east. Elsewhere will see brighter conditions developing with scattered showers and the occasional sunny spell.

"Highest temperature of 9 to 13 degrees. Breezy too with moderate to fresh southerly winds, strong at times on the coast."

Looking ahead to tomorrow, Met Eireann said: "Another cloudy start with outbreaks of rain and drizzle lingering over southern and eastern counties for a time.

"A clearance will develop from the northwest through the early afternoon with sunny spells and scattered showers.

"Some showers may turn heavy at times with the chance of hail. Highest temperatures of 7 to 11 degrees in moderate northwesterly winds."

They warned there would be scattered outbreaks of rain on Saturday but said on Sunday these could turn heavy.
