In Lebanon, she’s worried that war will come again

Dahye, Beirut, LEBANON – Imagine waking up on a normal Saturday, checking your phone and finding your WhatsApp full of news, messages and warnings about war and the first thing you hear is the news on TV.

This is the situation today in Lebanon. War is the only topic everyone is talking about, in group chats and status posts on every media platform.

Everyone is worried about whether the war is going to start again, although the ceasefire was violated everyday and houses were still bombed and people were still martyred.

But war is still a scary thing, even for people who were already affected by the first war, who already lost everything but are still resisting.

Is it all going to start again? Can we endure it again? Are we still able to resist? Will they send alerts? Will there be safe zones?

Some people have already planned where to go if this is the scenario. Some rented houses in the safe zones, some have relatives in the safe zones and some prepared passports.

Others are like my family and me – we have nothing other than our Lebanese passports and cats. Maybe we prefer staying in our houses than having to leave all over again.

War flashbacks were haunting me all day. I’ve been thinking about leaving our house again – what are we going to take, where are we going, how long will it be this time, will all my family be safe? Will my friends be safe?

The worst feeling is being worried, knowing that your loved ones aren’t safe.
