Warriors Give Steph Curry Injury Return Update After Loss to Lakers

The Golden State Warriors suffered a disheartening home loss last night, 129-101, to LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers.

King James and company led the game in each quarter, with him and teammate Luka Doncic combining for 48 points in the win. The Warriors had no answers, as their top scorer was Gui Santos with 14 points in a game where they shot 41-of-91 overall and just 27 percent from three-point range.

The team continues to miss the services of its two All-Star players, with Jimmy Butler lost for the season to a knee injury and Stephen Curry out for multiple games due to a right knee issue. A day after the stinging loss, the Warriors felt the sting of an update on Curry's extended absence.

Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry plays in a game against the Toronto Raptors

With Golden State getting a day to rest after their loss to the Lakers, the team's PR department shared an update to social media regarding Curry. Based on their latest details, he'll miss an additional 10 days as he continues to recover from his injury.

That indicates he won't be back for at least five games for a Warriors team that has lost six of its last 10 games, including the 28-point loss to Los Angeles on Saturday evening. They'll reevaluate him in another 10 days to see if he's good to go or needs additional recovery time.

The two-time NBA MVP last played for his team on Jan. 30, in a game against the Detroit Pistons.

Having Curry back would be a significant boost for the lineup, as the team won't have Butler back at all this season. The six-time NBA All-Star tore his right anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) on Jan. 16, sidelining him for the rest of this season.

Curry, a four-time NBA champion, is the team’s leading scorer with 27.2 points per game, followed by Butler, who was averaging 20 points per game. After that, they rely on players including De’Anthony Melton and Brandin Podziemski to carry the scoring load.

Golden State traded Jonathan Kuminga ahead of the deadline and acquired big man Kristaps Porzingis from the Atlanta Hawks. However, Porzingis has played only one game for the Warriors so far, debuting against the Boston Celtics and scoring 12 points.

The former Dallas Mavericks, New York Knicks, Hawks, and Celtics star is dealing with an undisclosed medical issue, keeping him out of action for the Golden State Warriors.

They're still among teams contending for a playoff spot, sitting at 31-29 and eighth in the Western Conference standings. The Warriors will attempt to bounce back with a win on Monday night when they host the Los Angeles Clippers.
