Carson Beck Projected to Land With Struggling NFL Team

Carson Beck isn't at top of the names in the 2026 NFL draft like Fernando Mendoza, but he's still expected to be one of the most sought-after quarterbacks on the roster.

According to Taylyn Hadley of the Bleacher Report, the University of Miami quarterback "delivered several pinpoint throws Saturday at the NFL combine, opting to focus on passing drills to showcase his arm talent and touch."

Beck had a lot to prove at Combine, because of how he struggled to lead the Miami Hurricanes at the College Football Playoff national championship game, where they fell 27-21 to Mendoza.

He had a rough reception at the NFL Combine, too. "Beck stepped up for his first throw of the combine, a routine post route, and was met with boos from the crowd at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. The 23-year-old shook it off and delivered a clean completion to his receiver," Hadley states.

Carson Beck #15 of the Georgia Bulldogs looks on after defeating the Tennessee Volunteers 31-17 at Sanford Stadium on November 16, 2024 in Athens, Georgia.

But, regardless, Beck is expected to be drafted fairly early on, and it appear he could go to a hurting franchise.

In a Saturday, February 28, feature for USA Today, Jacob Camenker gives his 2026 NFL draft picks. Regarding Beck, he sees him heading to the Miami Dolphins as the No. 90 overall, third round pick.

"The Dolphins are in a tough spot at quarterback, as they will have to take a massive dead-cap hit if they release Tua Tagovailoa during the 2026 NFL offseason," he states in the piece. "That may leave them looking for a cheap option at quarterback, and drafting someone to compete with 2025 seventh-round pick Quinn Ewers may be the squad's ideal solution."

Camenker adds that Beck brings a lot to the table as an "experienced, sixth-year quarterback who started 43 games with Georgia and Miami. He threw for at least 3,485 yards in each of his final three seasons and capped his career by completing 72.4% of his passes for 3,813 yards, 30 touchdowns and 12 interceptions in his lone season with the Hurricanes."

His arm strength, Camenker adds, is "average." His 2025 season was his first back after having surgery on the UCL in his throwing elbow. "He has prototypical size (6-4, 220 pounds) and throws with good touch and anticipation, but struggles under pressure, coupled with concerns about his arm strength, may render him more of a high-end backup than a long-term starter," he adds."
