Actor and director Rebel Wilson is facing fresh controversy after a new report alleged that a crisis public relations team working with the star discussed launching a smear campaign against Amanda Ghost, a producer on Wilson’s directorial debut, The Deb.
According to an exposé published by The Hollywood Reporter, newly leaked audio recordings purportedly capture members of Wilson’s PR team plotting to spread damaging allegations about Ghost — including claims that she was involved in sex trafficking.
The recordings allegedly feature digital fixer Jed Wallace discussing how the accusations would need to be particularly explosive in order to gain traction online.
“We can’t just do, like, oh, she’s a bitch, she sucks,” Wallace said in the recording. “It’s, like, it’s got to be really, really heavy and connected to something that heavy.”
The reported plan comes after Wilson previously accused the producers behind The Deb of inappropriate behavior and embezzlement tied to the film’s production. Those 2024 allegations were followed by a defamation lawsuit filed against Wilson by the movie’s producers as well as the film’s star, Charlotte MacInnes, who accused Wilson of harassment, bullying, and fabricating claims of sexual assault on set.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Wilson allegedly enlisted Wallace along with entertainment publicist Melissa Nathan. Both previously worked on the crisis PR team for Justin Baldoni during his public dispute with Blake Lively surrounding the film It Ends With Us.
Nathan’s firm, The Agency Group, has also represented major entertainment figures including Drake and Johnny Depp, the outlet reported.
In the audio obtained by the publication, Wallace allegedly suggests accusing Ghost of procuring sex workers for billionaire media mogul Len Blavatnik, whose company backs Ghost’s production banner, AI Film.
“So basically what we need to do is, we need to create a path where we expose Amanda Ghost,” Wallace said in the recording. “Amanda Ghost is like the new Heidi Fleiss. Like, she masquerades as — the reason why she sucks so bad at music is because she’s actually getting hookers for Blavatnik, right, and that’s what she does.” Ghost previously worked as a music executive at Epic Records.
According to the report, a website titled “Amanda Ghost is a Destroyer of Worlds” was eventually created but has since been taken down. The site allegedly accused Ghost of being the “Indian Ghislaine Maxwell” who “turned full pimp, reinventing herself as a theatrical producer alongside her husband while really procuring young women for the pleasure of the extremely wealthy.”
Ghost’s attorney, Camille Vasquez, pushed back on Wilson’s denials in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter.
“Rebel Wilson has repeatedly denied any involvement in the creation of the smear websites — not just on television but in her sworn legal testimony. We, however, had long suspected that she not only contributed to the malicious sites but that she was the driving force behind them. The evidence we have submitted to the court in California supports that conclusion.”
