The message handwritten on his helmet, "War Is Hell," depicted the cynical attitude of many draftees sent to the jungles of Southeast Asia to face deadly and terrifying combat. Reflecting on this, and the recent conflicts in the Middle East involving the USA and Israel against Iran, I have drawn a Muslim woman wearing an abaya; a traditional, long, cloak-like garment; with a headband bearing the same phrase. My goal is to show that war is devastating for everyone, regardless of their religion, race, gender, or origin, and to emphasize our shared human desire for peace and our collective stand against war. Say no to war.
