Transhumanism is rooted in the theory of evolution. According to this theory, humans have not yet fully realized their biological potential and should be biotechnologically optimized. For transhumanists, what the human body has evolved into is actually inefficient. The organic body itself is an outdated model: it is weak, mortal, and ultimately dispensable. Transhumanists believe that the biological limitations of humans can be overcome with the help of technologies such as artificial intelligence, biotechnology, nanotechnology, and genetics. The movement envisions a future in which humans are potentially immortal and possess enhanced physical and expanded mental abilities. The vision sounds enticing: eternal life, a perfect, custom-made body, and a consciousness that exists within digital networks—the desire to improve humanity. What was once only conceivable in science fiction is suddenly within reach.Humanity 2.0Transhumanists are working toward a future in which humans and machines, natural and artificial intelligence, merge. The next stage of evolution will be reached when the current biological human is overcome. But something has gone wrong from the very beginning, because our bodies are controlled by an outdated genetic program from a bygone era. This genetic legacy must be overcome—and we already have the knowledge to do so.It follows that such an artificially created intelligence system represents “a source of great power” and would likely give those who control it a decisive strategic advantage. The convergence of biotechnology and artificial intelligence through nanotechnology could lead to a complete overcoming of the limitations of our biological organs.Medical nanorobots could then enter the body and perform repairs directly on site. They could also monitor blood flow in the organs and release or filter out various substances such as hormones, nutrients, oxygen, carbon dioxide, and toxins to improve or even replace their function.Optimistically, ambitious attempts are being made to largely overcome diseases and aging processes in order to ultimately solve the problem of mortality. You reap what you sowWe can certainly welcome technological advances that improve our lives. In the field of medicine, they can restore the function of certain organs. However, in the case of the transhumanist promise of salvation, the attempt to achieve eternal life through technical interventions could ultimately lead to the destruction of human life itself. This drastic intervention in human nature treats humans as commodities, as test subjects that can be improved at will.It represents the contempt for the body that the Creator has instilled in us.This undermines the dignity and value of human beings. They are viewed merely as “flesh robots” made of matter, and their individuality is erased.Without God, chaos would reign in the world. Artificial intelligence and advancing technology could spiral out of control. If we reject God, we suffer greatly and ultimately die.A society in which God is pushed aside loses its standard for truth, morality, and dignity. The grave consequence of this is that good and evil are no longer measured against the truth that God has revealed in the Bible.Since the Fall, humanity has placed itself at the center and determines for itself what is right. Those who ignore God and His values reap a spiritual and moral vacuum. When we modify certain human characteristics to overcome human limitations, we exalt ourselves to the status of a god over life and death (Genesis 3:5;Isaiah 14:13–14; Ezekiel 28:2).The ideology of transhumanism does not lead the human race to some supposed ascension, but merely to its downfall, as is the case with every humanistic endeavor. It is a rigorous, panicked flight from the facts of reality.Man is born, lives, and dies—that is the natural order.Transhumanism and posthumanism represent a radical departure from man, who was created in the image of God (Genesis 1:26).Posthumanist activities aimed at uploading consciousness or recreating the human body are an expression of hatred toward one’s own body. This hatred contradicts the nature that God has given us. In doing so, one portrays God as a liar who described His creation as very good in the beginning (Genesis 1:31; Exodus 31:17).The Origin of DeathPosthumanism is rooted in humanity’s age-old desire to be immortal—or at least to postpone death for as long as possible. The fundamental problem of illness, suffering, and death has not been recognized by humanity and cannot be treated.According to scientists, death is not an inevitable fate, but a technical problem to be solved.Humanity now strives to turn humans into superhuman beings and transform Homo sapiens into Homo deus.According to the theory of evolution, the life of an organism ends with death, and there is no afterlife. If even scientists, philosophers, and poets have no satisfactory answer to the question of death, who then should give us an absolutely reliable answer to it?In all of world history, there is only one person who can answer this question for us: Jesus Christ! He was crucified, died, and rose again on the third day.He has not been defeated by death, but is the victor and has power over it:»And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last:I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.«Revelation 1:17-18Human beings are creatures composed of the unity of spirit and matter, or soul and body.Sin results in a threefold death. Physical deathThe natural fate of human beings as a consequence of sin is death (Hebrews 9:27). Spiritual deathSin has alienated human beings from God, which is why they are dead in their trespasses and sins (Ephesians 2:1).Whoever dies in their sins without being redeemed will enter the second death (hell) (Revelation 20:14).Death does not mean the end of a person’s existence, but merely separation from life and from God.(The Bible classifies physical and spiritual death as natural consequences of the Fall, viewing them as a single form of death)»Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned«Romans 5:12»For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.«Romans 6:23»For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.«1 Corinthians 15:21According to the Bible, what matters is not avoiding physical death, but saving the immortal soul from eternal death (hell). In place of delusional fantasies, faith in Jesus should take hold, representing humanity’s true salvation through an undeserved transformation by grace. From a biblical perspective, human life is a gift given by God, which He can also take back (Deuteronomy 32:39; Job 1:21).Only the Creator Himself, who called us into being, possesses the power to abolish death for us(Isaiah 25:8, Hosea 13:14; Revelation 21:4).Only Jesus Christ has conquered death and grants us eternal life when we believe in him as our Savior:»Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.«John 5:24»Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?«John 11:25-26»For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.«Romans 5:17-18»For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.«Romans 6:23»For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.«1 Corinthians 15:22Eternal life is a gift from God by grace, obtained through faith in the work accomplished on the cross and in His resurrection (1 Corinthians 15:1-4).It means not only a timeless existence after death, but also a living fellowship with God already in this earthly life. The born-again Christian, who has received forgiveness of sins and eternal life through faith in Jesus Christ, will receive a new body that far surpasses anything material.
