Rangers injury update after key star absence vs Dundee United as Danny Rohl 'convinced' of one thing after win

Left-back Tuur Rommens faces a period on the sidelines through injury after sitting out of Rangers’ Premiership win over Dundee United

Satisfied Danny Rohl has urged his Rangers squad to keep their foot on the Premiership title race pedal after defeating Dundee United - as an injury update is provided on Tuur Rommens.

Amar Fatah and Zac Sapsford both handed the visitors lifelines but Rangers got the job done to move above long-time leaders Hearts. Derek McInnes’ team can retake pole position when they visit basement side Livingston on Sunday.

“Three points was the most important thing,” Rohl admitted. “The first game after the international break is always a difficult one. We had to find a rhythm again and we expected a difficult game. They beat Celtic last time and had some threats.

“If you look at the 90 minutes, our performance was a bit up and down. There were some really good moments, especially after going 3-1 up. But you know if you don’t close the game out, one situation is enough to let them back in. We saw it out well as a group and our subs made a great impact which is what we need.”

“The most important thing is that we still have the right mindset. Even now that we are top, we have to stay on the front foot. If we win our next six games then I’m convinced we will have something (to celebrate) at the end of the season. My group of players have the potential to do this, but there’s still a long way (to go). It’s no secret that next week away to Falkirk is a very difficult game.”

When will Tuur Rommens be back for Rangers?

Rohl said pre-match that a Rangers player had been injured ahead of the game and that mystery was cleared up when Tuur Rommens was omitted from the team sheet. It was later confirmed that the Belgian left-back had sustained a muscle injury.

Elaborating further on how the injury occurred and a potential return timeline, Rohl stated: “During training on Thursday, he felt something in his quad. We scanned him, it’s not a big one but still serious enough. Hopefully it’s just two more games and he’ll be ready for the second game during the split. The good thing is we have one extra week between Falkirk and the first post-split game. He will do everything to be ready as soon as possible.”

What Jim Goodwin said about Rangers 4-2 Dundee United

Dundee United boss Jim Goodwin was left gutted after his side missed out on a top-six place following a combination of this defeat and Falkirk’s 3-2 victory over Motherwell. They face bottom side Livingston pre-split.

“I thought the first half was pretty even,” he reflected. “I don’t think we deserved to go in behind at half-time. We were really good on the break at times, but the first three goals we concede are really avoidable from our point of view. I’m extremely disappointed not to make the top half (of the table). The objective for the group now is to finish best of the rest. There’s an element of personal pride to maintain and we need to make sure we keep the standards high.”
