"The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" Season 3 may still be shrouded in mystery, but there are plenty of juicy details most people don’t know about.
They include secret story beats, the most likely release window, casting information, and when we can expect the first trailer to drop.
Prime Video’s lavish prequel series, which takes place prior to the events of director Peter Jackson’s “The Lord of the Rings” movies, has a huge audience, with fans hungry for more. Both seasons occupy the streamer’s all-time top five most-viewed titles.
‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ Season 3 Everything We KnowIn “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” Season 3, we are about to see true war. That is, war on a scale that hasn't been seen in an on-screen adaptation before.
That’s because Prime Video’s upcoming series takes place in what’s known as The Second Age, a time dominated by the powerful Elvish civilization.
Headed up by Elrond and Galadriel, with Gandalf lending assistance, The War of the Elves will finally be shown as they go head-to-head with a fully powered Sauron wielding his One Ring. This war will dwarf anything seen from Frodo's journey in Jackson’s “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy, which took place in the Fourth Age.
What Will Happen in ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ Season 3?The downfall of Eregion marks the first battle in the War between the Elves and Sauron, which happened in the season 2 finale. Expect season 3 to expand the conflict massively.
This means an end to the Elves’ hold over Middle-earth. The settlements of Lindon, Eregion and Mithlond will be sacked, pushing the once mighty race to the brink of extinction. It’ll no doubt be gut-wrenching.
‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ Season 3 Release DatePrime Video has yet to officially announce a release date for “The Rings of Power” Season 3, despite it wrapping production in early December 2025.
Season 2 took roughly 20 months to release following filming. If we apply the same timescale to season 3, that sets the release window in fall 2027. Unfortunately, it is unlikely to release in 2026.
‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ Season 3 PlotThere is no official synopsis for “The Rings of Power” Season 3 yet. We do know where it’s likely to go, however. Sauron is now at the height of his power, possessing a few seemingly unbeatable attributes. These are: the Nine Rings for Men, an Orc army, and Feëanor’s hammer.
The latter enables him to forge the One Ring, which according to the books happens in Mordor. This is probably where he’s heading in season 3. It could happen in the very first episode, or perhaps the entire season follows his relentless attempts to get his hands on the powerful weapon.
Meanwhile, Galadriel will band with Elrond, Gil-galad, and Gandalf (who’s now remembered who he is) as they join forces and rally opposition against the Dark Lord.
Other notable events that will likely happen in season 3 include:
The dwarves fighting the Balrog after accidentally waking it up A power struggle in Khazad-dûm following the death of King DurinThe creation of Rivendell in the wake of Eregion's fall"This is only the beginning for him. I think that's the exciting part", Sauron star Charlie Vickers told GamesRadar+. "I think there's definitely going to still be a presence. I think [his fight with Galadriel] was a confrontation. But I think, as you see in The Lord of the Rings books, he is still present in her mind", Vickers says.

Most of the main cast is returning, including Charlie Vickers as Sauron, Morfydd Clark as Galadriel, and the BAFTA-winning Robert Aramayo as Elrond.
