He appeared in the writer-director’s 1998 debut thriller Following and later featured in Christopher’s acclaimed war epic Dunkirk, proving his enduring versatility well into his later years.On television, John won over a new generation of fans with his role as the mysterious former MI6 operative John Greer in Person of Interest. Introduced in the second season, his chilling performance made him one of the show’s most memorable antagonists, and he remained involved across its five-season run.Born on May 22, 1938, John was the younger brother of Brendan Nolan, father to Christopher and Jonathan. A graduate of London’s prestigious Drama Centre, he was among the first students to train there, laying the foundations for a distinguished acting career.His early breakthrough came when he landed the role of Romeo at Richmond Theatre, a performance that led to a two-year stint with the Royal Shakespeare Company. He would go on to enjoy a rich and varied stage career, also performing with the Royal Court Company and Bristol New Vic.John’s theatre credits included productions such as Bequest to the Nation, Terror and The World Is Full of Married Men. On screen, he also appeared in classic British TV series including Doomwatch, The Sweeney and Silent Witness.He is survived by his wife, actress Kim Hartman, their children Miranda and Tom, grandchildren Dylan and Kara, and his extended family.
